The entire world is discussing COVID-19. People are desperately searching solutions to counteract the pandemic. Lockdown appears to be one remedy. Everyone wishes to evade death & disease imposed by COVID-19. Nevertheless, somehow or other, everyone must die.
When Maharaja Yudhisthira was asked, "What is the most surprising aspect in this world?” He replied, "Even after sufficient experience, humans, the most intelligent species, skip perceiving the death & disease as inevitable. Everyone thinks that they are going to live perpetually in the human body." The message of King Yudhisthira does not mean becoming careless about the disease and die helplessly. He wants everyone to find a solution for stopping death permanently and introspect, "Why death, disease, and many problems are forcefully imposed upon us? How to engage ourselves in finding a permanent solution to all the problems of life?" The questions & answers of this kind are the subject matter of Vedic philosophy.
The most fundamental aspect of Vedic philosophy or spirituality is to understand "Who am I?" The answer, "We are all spirit souls, spiritual beings who are part & parcel of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krishna. We are not human beings but spiritual beings, having a temporary human experience. We are not the body but the spirit soul. As a spirit soul, we all are eternal, primeval, undying & belong to the spiritual world (Vaikuntha). "
As a spirit soul, our consciousness is Krishna consciousness. Leaving Vaikuntha, we lost our original consciousness called Krishna consciousness & came to this world to accept many material bodies. Vedas explain this phenomenon as the cycle of birth & death. There are 84 lakh species in the universe. In various species, one perpetually wanders from one body to another without cessation. This wandering is the root of all uncountable miseries of life.
Being a spirit soul, we all can have unlimited spiritual enjoyment with God (Krishna) in the spiritual world (Vaikuntha) with zero miseries. Because we are bound to this material world through the cycle of birth & death, we are unable to enjoy that unlimited spiritual enjoyment, and this is keeping us in the most miserable condition. This situation is called the imposed lockdown on a spirit soul to this material world. Every human being has to recognize this imposed lockdown as the biggest problem of life and must seriously take up to the solution with utmost priority. To reach this understanding is the sum & substance of Vedic philosophy.
If one can break the imposed lockdown on the spirit soul, one can solve all the problems of life. Vedas explain that the process of Krishna consciousness is the only way to break the imposed lockdown & reach the spiritual world (Vaikuntha). Vedas declare this as the ultimate goal of human life. Srila Prabhupada explains- "If we take to the process of Krishna consciousness by constantly chanting - Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare, the cycle of birth and death can be stopped for good." Hence, every sincere candidate should continuously chant Hare Krishna Maha-mantra.
To stop this cycle of birth & death, Srila Prabhupada is distributing this process of chanting Hare Krishna Maha-mantra through the 'Hare Krishna Movement (ISKCON)' across the globe. This process is not an innovation. It is an authorized Vedic process that is strongly recommended for this age (Kali-Yuga).
Escaping death from COVID-19 by lockdown at home is a temporary escape. However, this Krishna consciousness is the permanent escape of death. Therefore, every intelligent human being must follow this process of chanting Hare Krishna Maha-mantra and permanently stop the birth & death cycle. In this way, one can effortlessly break the imposed lockdown on a spirit soul to this material world.
